The OS
The honest version of what you asked for
You asked for an operating system that unblocks 99 percent of your blockers and false ceilings. Nothing does that, and the size of the number is the tell: it is the size of the feeling you want, not the size of the thing that exists. What is achievable is smaller and more useful. The blockers you can already see are handled. You run dashboards for your weight, your bloods, your spend, your visa, your trips. The layer that is not handled is the one underneath, and it is invisible because it works.
Every part of your current life that reads as a preference is downstream of one conclusion you drew in 2019. Rent month to month. No marriage. No local family. A visa re-earned every year. Five-year blocks with an exit in each. Nothing you can be removed from. That is not a personality, and it is not a philosophy. It is a defence built to specification after two events, and it has been running unopposed ever since. Labour, it is one page of Theorem.
The upgrade metaphor, corrected
You asked whether this is a Windows to Mac to Linux move. It is the right instinct and the wrong mechanism. You cannot wipe and reinstall a brain. There is no clean install, no partition, no rollback. Every version runs on the same kernel, the same hardware and the same accumulated data, forever, and it has to keep running the whole time it is being changed.
The accurate model is a version upgrade under load, on a live system, with no restore point. Which is why the mechanism cannot be reading. Reading changes what you know. It does not change what you predict, and a belief is a prediction. Beliefs move under contradiction, slowly, and only in proportion to the number of times they are contradicted by something you cannot explain away.
The architecture
You said the body is the base layer of the new life, the thing that has to carry the next 25 years. Correct, and it is the one structural change the experts forced: layer 1 is not a goal competing with the other three. It is the platform they run on. Training is fixed. Everything else flexes.
The four rules of this OS
- Belief changes only under contradiction. Every month ends in a test, never in a lesson. A month that produces insight and no data produced nothing.
- Nothing here is longer than one screen to read or one page to write. If it needs its own document, it is planning, and planning is the thing that has not worked.
- Any section still empty after 60 days gets cut. Empty sections are the diagnostic, not the debt.
- Nothing gets added that you have not already run by hand once.
Theorem
Version 1: the one you are running now
You stated this yourself, on 20 September 2026. It is not a mood and it is not a symptom. It is a theorem, derived from evidence, and it has been running your life for seven years.
Competence does not protect you. Giving does not earn you anything. Therefore the only safe move is to own nothing that can be taken, depend on no one, and bet only on yourself.
What it is made of
| The claim | What it actually rests on | |
|---|---|---|
| C1 | Competence does not protect you. | Aug 2019: a client of about ten years fired you and bought a big agency's name instead. True. It is a fact about how enterprise procurement buys logo risk, not a fact about competence. |
| C2 | Giving does not earn you anything. | About a year later: Theresa monetised a shallow version of your own skill inside an institution that could sell it, then did not need you. True. It is a fact about who captures credit, not a fact about giving. |
| C3 | Therefore own nothing, depend on no one, bet only on yourself. | Not observed. Derived. This is the step where n=2 became a law of the universe. |
Two observations, both real, both correctly read, and one generalisation that the evidence does not support. n equals 2. That is the entire load-bearing problem. Both observations are facts about intermediaries that capture value, which is a specific, repeatable and addressable market failure. Neither is a fact about competence, about giving, or about the laws of the universe.
The structure underneath it
This is the more useful frame, and it comes from Kegan and Lahey's work on immunity to change. Their finding is that a failure to enact a visible commitment is usually not a deficit. It is the success of an invisible one. One foot on the gas, one foot on the brake, and you cannot move until you can see both feet.
| Visible commitment | Behaviour working against it | Hidden competing commitment | Big assumption |
|---|---|---|---|
| A few hobbies, a few friends, a regular partner, income from strangers | Month-to-month rent. No marriage. No local family. The visa re-earned every year. Five-year blocks with an exit in each. Work cut to 10-12 h/wk. Funnels with nobody inside them. | Never again be in a position where something can be taken from me | Anyone I let near enough can remove me |
The consequence is that your failure to build the life you say you want is not a failure of will, and more planning will not touch it. It is the correct output of a system that is successfully doing its job. While the competing commitment is invisible, it wins every time, and it wins quietly.
The false ceilings, named
| The ceiling | Where it came from | What it blocks | The test |
|---|---|---|---|
| Competence does not protect you; they buy the logo. | Aug 2019 | Every price you would ever quote | Ask 10 strangers for money, in numbers |
| People like me do not fit into society. 80 percent fail. | n=2, generalised | Belonging, collaboration, being known | One person knows this plan by name |
| Achieving more will not help me. | Part 2, the life you hated | All forward motion | Run three things you would do if nobody were scoring them |
| I am 6'0 and 180, too big to climb. | Your mid-20s read on elite climbing | The cycling decade you said you wanted | One group ride at masters pace |
| I have no home, no people, no religion, so I must invent a philosophy. | The premise of this site | Actually building any of the above | The philosophy gets tested, not written |
| I already died. | 2019 to 2022 | Any future-tense identity | A v2 theorem written in the present tense |
The box for version 2
Do not fill this in today. A v2 written now would be a promise. A v2 written from the tests below would be a result. It must satisfy four conditions:
- Written in the present tense, as a description of how things are, not how you hope they are.
- A claim you would bet one thousand dollars on.
- Falsifiable within twelve months by your own observation, without needing anyone's agreement.
- Smaller than its evidence. If it is bigger than the observations supporting it, it is v1 again wearing new clothes.
Engine
Should this include first-principles problem solving
Yes, and it is not a fourth thing bolted onto the other three. It is the only tool that can retire v1, because v1 was built by first principles on bad inputs. You do not beat a bad derivation with a new belief. You beat it with a better derivation. Your own files already list the foundation as health, wealth, lifestyle plus first principles. That is correct. Keep it.
The procedure, sized to one page
- State the claim in one sentence. Write it down. A claim you have not written is a climate, not a claim.
- List the observations it came from. Write the n. Most false ceilings die on this step alone, and they die because the number is embarrassing and true.
- Ask what the most general claim is that the evidence actually supports. Then narrow it until it is true. This is the step that was skipped in 2019 and it has cost you seven years.
- Ask what single observation would falsify the wide version. One observation. Not a research programme.
- Go get that observation this month. This is the only step that changes anything, and it is the step that never happens.
Applied
The one rule of the engine
Never let a claim grow larger than its evidence. Write the n. If the n is 2, the claim stays the size of 2.
You have spent seven years running an n=2 finding as though it were a law of the universe, and the expensive part is not that the belief is wrong. It is that a claim that big cannot be tested, so it can never be corrected.
The Matrix, made structural
You said the films resonate. They should, and for a more useful reason than the one usually taken from them.
- It is not a film about escaping a simulation. It is a film about the fact that a generated world can be perfectly internally consistent, match every detail of your experience, and still not be the terrain. That is a precise description of v1. It explains everything you have observed, which is exactly what makes it hard to see.
- A model that predicts everything you have seen is not evidence that it predicts what you have not. This is the only statistical fact the film is really about.
- The red pill is not insight. It is disconfirming data. Neo does not think his way out; he is given evidence from outside the model, and it hurts. Applied here: you cannot reason your way out of v1 by reading. You can only be shown something it did not predict.
- The part the film skips is the part that matters to you. There is no chair and no plug. The upgrade happens on a running system, under load, over months, with no rollback. That is not a disappointing detail. It is the reason this file is a schedule of tests and not a philosophy.
- The most useful character in it is not Neo, it is Cypher. He learns the truth and chooses the comfortable simulation anyway, because the steak tastes real. Every plan for a better life dies at the point where the comfortable version is a live option. Name yours in advance, in writing, or it will name itself for you at the worst moment.
Five Experts
Are there real experts on this? Yes, and they disagree
The question has four separate literatures behind it, and they do not agree with each other. That disagreement is the useful part.
| The literature | Who and what |
|---|---|
| Predictive processing and computational neuroscience | Friston (free energy, active inference), Andy Clark (Surfing Uncertainty), Hohwy. The brain is a prediction engine. Beliefs are precision-weighted predictions. Attention is the process of tuning that precision. |
| Adult developmental psychology | Kegan (orders of consciousness, subject-object theory), Torbert (action inquiry), Wilber. Stages of self that behave like operating system versions. Kegan's empirical claim is that only a third to a half of adults fully reach the self-authoring order. |
| Change mechanics | Hayes (ACT, psychological flexibility, defusion), Fogg (behaviour design, B=MAP), Bjork and Ericsson (learning science, desirable difficulty, deliberate practice). |
| Contemplative and attentional engineering | Culadasa / John Yates (The Mind Illuminated), Shinzen Young (unified mindfulness), Harris. |
The five below are composites, not real people, and none of them is quoted. Each is built from one of those literatures, each has a different epistemology, and each was asked to review the same twelve months and to be willing to veto the others. Where they collide, the collision is recorded below rather than smoothed over.
The plan is right and it is early. You have correctly made belief change depend on contradiction rather than insight. Two things are wrong.
I cut the 12-month frame as the unit of belief change. Updates run on the count of disconfirming samples, not on the calendar. A month with no update is data, not failure.
Write the prediction before every test, in numbers. Prediction before observation is the only thing that separates updating from rationalising.
I veto month 7 as the moment v2 is written. If the tests have not produced disconfirming data by then, writing v2 in April produces a mood, not a theorem. v2 gets written in the first month in which at least three tests have returned unexpected results.
A one-line numeric prediction before each of the first ten asks, plus a log of whether the outcome matched.
Your 12 months is a three-year project with a 12-month trigger. Say that out loud now, or you will read the year as failure.
I cut month 12 as a milestone. If you have genuinely changed order, the next 12 months will be obvious and will not need a planning month. Leave the space blank and see what fills it.
One structural removal per quarter, not per year. Q1: let one person know this plan by name. Q2: let one person have something they could take. Q3: let one person be able to disappoint you and do not exit. Q4: do the thing you would previously have exited over.
I veto the 80-percent-fail / 20-percent-wildly-successful framing anywhere in this plan. It is a probability claim with no denominator, and it does two opposite kinds of damage: it authorises abandoning the plan, and it authorises the fantasy. Produce the base rate and the study, or delete it. I recommend delete.
The four-column immunity map on one page, with the big assumption written verbatim in your own words.
The practice half is over-designed and the smallest viable version is missing. A twelve-month plan that needs forty good weeks in a row has a failure rate close to one.
Any month carrying more than one new behaviour. Twelve months is already twelve new behaviours and you do not need twelve.
A written floor for every line, plus a written definition of what a bad week looks like and what still happens in it. And schedule the post-test review for the same evening, while the surprise is fresh.
I veto reading the month's book in the same month as running the month's test. You read fast and it will displace the rep. The book is fine once the test has been run.
Define the floor for practice, weighing and the log. Then run the first ten asks at floor level even if the week is bad.
You said enlightenment does not seem useful to you. Agreed. But the target set is wrong, and it is costing you the one skill the entire plan rests on.
Any goal phrased as an experience or a state: calm, clear, present, centred. You cannot test a state and you will not reach one on schedule.
One explicit defusion rep per week, written. Take the v1 sentence, write I am noticing the thought that competence does not protect me, and record what changes and what does not. The point is not to believe the opposite. It is to find out whether the sentence is a fact or an event.
I veto putting the daily weigh-in in the same window as practice. The first thing that happens in a practice window must not be a number capable of delivering a verdict about the self.
Ten minutes daily, same seat, same time. Log the number of returns, not the minutes.
You said the body is the base layer. It is, and this plan treats it as one track among three. Reverse that.
Nothing. This is the one area I refuse to cut, and I will veto anything that pulls training time for a reading block.
A monthly capability test, physical and pass/fail: a floor of minutes at a heart rate, a set of weights, a climb, a distance. Not a weight on a scale. And: treat CPAP adherence and sleep as the load-bearing mood intervention, above practice and above philosophy, with an adherence number you actually look at.
I veto any month whose wording makes training the flexible item. As drafted, month 1 and months 5 to 7 all implicitly let training slide to make room. It is the reverse: training is fixed and everything else flexes.
Re-test bloods and read them against the written prediction. Nightly CPAP with an adherence number. A dated capability baseline in three movements and one aerobic test.
Where they disagree
| Where they collide | How it was resolved |
|---|---|
| Vantage vetoes month 7 as the v2 deadline. Amari vetoes Vantage's timetable as too short. | Resolution: v2 is data-triggered, not date-triggered. April stays as the month that scores the tests, and the deliverable for April becomes score the tests, not write v2. |
| Renn vetoes reading in the same month as the test. Ostrow vetoes co-locating the weigh-in and the practice. Reyes vetoes any month where training is the flexible item. | Resolution: reading is demoted from work to reward. Practice gets a guard on its opening minutes. Training is fixed and everything else flexes. |
| Amari's structural removal has no counterpart in the other four and is the item most likely to be skipped. | Resolution: it stays, it is dated, and it is the one addition that survives unchanged. Recorded here so the disagreement is not smoothed over later. |
The merged plan, with the changes applied
Nine changes survived the review. These are the plan as it now stands:
- The body moves from one track among three to layer 1. Fixed, not flexible.
- Month 1 becomes ten low-stakes asks, not one large one, each with a written numeric prediction.
- Every line in the plan gets a floor and a written definition of what a bad week looks like.
- v2 of the theorem becomes data-triggered, not date-triggered.
- The 80/20 framing is deleted from the plan.
- One structural removal per quarter, in Amari's order.
- Practice is ten minutes daily, guard-railed away from the scale, scored on returns.
- Every month carries a physical capability test, pass or fail.
- Reading is demoted to reward and never shares a month with the test.
12 Months
Twelve months, starting Sunday 27 September 2026
13 rows. Each one has a single test, a floor for a bad week, one input, and one thing that gets scored. No row has more than one new behaviour in it, because you do not need twelve new behaviours, and because a plan with no floor has a failure rate near one.
The dates are not invented. Every anchor in the sixth column already exists in your own calendar.
| Month | Theme | The test | Floor if the week is bad | Input | Already in your calendar | What gets scored |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
M0Sep 27 - Oct 4 2026 | INSTALL | No test. Four days. Write claim v1 on one page and the three claims under it. Stop. | Ten minutes, once. | Nothing. Do not read anything this week. | Sep 27 is a Sunday. This is the only week with no test in it. | v1 exists on one page, dated, in your own handwriting. |
M1Oct 2026 | THE ASK | Ten asks. Ten separate low-stakes requests for money from strangers or weak ties, each with a numeric prediction written first. | One ask, written prediction, logged the same evening. | The Mom Test (summary). Exactly What to Say (summary). Reward only, after the test. | Oct 1: the wealth planning gate already in your calendar. Oct 12: first Z4 interval block. Oct 26: your 50th. | Number asked. Number of real answers. Number of predictions that matched. |
M2Nov 2026 | THE BODY PROOF | Twenty-eight consecutive days inside the eating window, plus MWF strength. Prediction of the Dec 1 weight written on Oct 31. | Log the day even if the day was bad. The log is the behaviour. | Outlive (full). | Clean window opens. This is the best month of the year for this and it is also the easiest. | Weight on Dec 1 against the written prediction. Days logged. |
M3Dec 2026 | THE NUMBERS | Re-test. Lipids and total T, fasted, plus weight. Prediction written in November, compared in December. | Attend the draw. That is the whole floor. | The Obesity Code (summary). | Bloods already pencilled for about Nov 30 to Dec 3. The TRT decision point is this month: total T under about 300 with symptoms on both draws is a candidate; 300 to 500 lets the body answer first. | TG, LDL, HDL, T and weight, each against the prediction. One line on what surprised you. |
M4Jan 2027 | THE PEOPLE TEST | Three in-person approaches with men. Record who initiates contact back within fourteen days. | One approach, and record the result. | Friends (full). I Don't Want to Talk About It (full). | First structural removal is due this quarter: one person knows this plan by name. | Attempts made. Count of returned contact, not the quality of the conversation. |
M5Feb 2027 | ATTENTION | Thirty consecutive days of ten minutes, logged on returns rather than minutes. | Two minutes. Sitting is the behaviour. | The Mind Illuminated (full, stages 1 to 3 only). Waking Up app 28-day course. | Smoke season begins mid-month. Training moves indoors and that is already planned, not a setback. | Days sat. Total returns. Whether the number of returns per sit changed. |
M6Mar 2027 | THE HARD MONTH | Does the system survive a month with no outdoor reinforcement? Measure adherence on every line. | The floor only. This is the month the floors exist for. | The Comfort Crisis (full). | Burn season, indoor only, this is in your notes as the hardest month of the year. | Adherence percentage per line. Name the line that broke first. |
M7Apr 2027 | SCORE THE TESTS | Go back through every prediction from October. For C1, C2 and C3, list every observation that either matched or contradicted. Count them. | List the observations. Do not write a conclusion. | Superforecasting (summary). | Planned crypto sale funds 2027. The sale is a fact about cash, not a test of the theorem. | The disconfirming count for each of C1, C2 and C3. If any claim has three or more contradictions, v2 gets written this month. If not, it does not. |
M8May 2027 | THE GATE | Return to a real sport session at the weight gate. One session, done, scored. | Show up and do the warm-up. | How Bad Do You Want It (summary). | About 220 lb is the Muay Thai and cycling confidence gate in your own notes. | Sessions completed. What the body could do that it could not in September. |
M9Jun 2027 | THE FATHER | One honest conversation with Roger. No logistics, no plans, no money. His 75th is Jun 30. | One question asked. | Being Mortal (full). | Jun 30: his 75th. Jul 2027: the family Thailand trip is already planned. | Did the conversation happen: yes or no. Nothing else. |
M10Jul 2027 | THE CHECKPOINT | The two numbers you named. Weight and income. Report both without rounding up. | Report both. | None. This is a measurement month and adding work here contaminates it. | The family trip is this month. Jul 31 is the deadline you set. | Pounds and dollars, against the predictions written in October. Plus the honest gap. |
M11Aug 2027 | THE DRY RUN | Live one week of the sixty-plus life: a base, golf daily, the partner arrangement, no work. Then score it. | Three days instead of seven. | Die with Zero (summary). | Aug 2027 is the departure gateway in your notes. | One score out of ten, written the day you get back, not a week later. |
M12Sep 2027 | THE SECOND YEAR | No test. Amari's veto applies: leave this month blank and see what fills it. | None. The absence is the data. | From Strength to Strength (summary). | Cambodia this month for the ED visa reset and the bank account. | Whether a v3 exists, or whether the space stayed empty. Both are answers. |
The Stack
The input stack
12 books, 11 already in your library and 1 new. Every author is a man, which is your standing rule, and nothing here is a beginner book on something you already run. A book never shares a month with that month's test: reading is the reward, not the work.
| Book | Author | Year | Where | Read as | What it is for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Mom Test | Rob Fitzpatrick | 2013 | library | summary | How to ask a question that returns information instead of politeness. |
| Exactly What to Say | Phil M. Jones | 2017 | library | summary | The actual sentences for asking, which is the part you have not done since 2019. |
| Outlive | Peter Attia | 2023 | library | full | The base-layer argument, written for a man who wants to know what breaks and when. |
| The Obesity Code | Jason Fung | 2016 | library | summary | The metabolic mechanism sitting under TG 416 and the insulin resistance. |
| Feeling Good | David D. Burns | 1980 | library | summary | The plain instrument for separating a thought from a fact, before the eastern version. |
| Friends | Robin Dunbar | 2021 | library | full | What friendship is actually made of, and which specific thing makes it stop. |
| I Don't Want to Talk About It | Terrence Real | 1997 | library | full | The male version of the wound and the pattern, without sympathy or a diagnosis. |
| Superforecasting | Philip Tetlock | 2015 | library | summary | How to write a prediction that can be scored, which is the mechanism of this whole file. |
| The Mind Illuminated | Culadasa (John Yates), Matthew Immergut, Jeremy Graves | 2015 | new | full | The attention manual. Stages 1 to 3 are the entire first year and nothing after that is needed. |
| How to Think Like a Roman Emperor | Donald Robertson | 2019 | library | summary | Stoicism as a practice rather than a shelf, which is the correction your philosophy lane needs. |
| Being Mortal | Atul Gawande | 2014 | library | full | The conversation with your father, priced honestly instead of sentimentally. |
| From Strength to Strength | Arthur C. Brooks | 2022 | library | summary | The second-curve argument, written for a man at almost exactly this point. |
Read as summary means get a summary first, which is your own rule for idea books. Read as full means the whole thing, for craft and narrative and memoir.
Courses, because you learn from video
You have said you learn best from video, so the course path comes before the coaching path.
| Course | By | What it is | Why this one |
|---|---|---|---|
| Waking Up | Sam Harris | App: a 28-day introductory course plus a separate theory library. | The secular version of the thing you said you were okay learning. Theory and practice are separated. No religion required, no faith asked for. |
| Mental Models for Better Thinking | Shane Parrish (Farnam Street) | 5 modules, 77 lectures, 15 exercises, 5 challenges. | The systematic version of the first-principles engine, which is already your stated foundation. |
| Decision by Design | Shane Parrish (Farnam Street) | 12 weekly video modules with workbooks. | Framed by its own author as building your own mental operating system for life. It is the closest existing product to what this page is trying to be. |
| Your own first-principles journal | you | fp.myagentworkers.com | The only one that counts. Everything above feeds this and nothing above replaces it. |
Meditation, specified
You said enlightenment does not seem useful and that you are okay learning it anyway. The stack below is not a spiritual programme. It is attention training with a manual, and it is included because the plan cannot run without it.
| What | Ten minutes daily. Same seat, same time. Attention goes to the breath, and when it leaves, it comes back. |
| Manual | The Mind Illuminated, stages 1 to 3. Stage 1 is establishing the practice. Stage 2 is noticing that attention left. That is the whole first year. |
| Scored on | The number of times attention wandered and you noticed. Not minutes. Not calm. Not a streak. |
| Guard | Never in the same window as the weigh-in. The first thing in a practice window must not be a number that can deliver a verdict about the self. |
| Target | None. Enlightenment is not a target here and is not scored. You said it does not seem useful. That is a reasonable position. The three effects with real support are attention control, reduced rumination and emotion regulation, and those are the prerequisites for testing a belief. |
What else this needs, which is not a book or a course
| Sleep and CPAP as the load-bearing mood intervention | Higher expected effect on flatness than practice, higher than philosophy, and it is currently in the plan at zero prominence. Get an adherence number and read it weekly. Apnea has a documented relationship with daytime mood. |
| Bloodwork as the objective scoreboard | You have three planned draws: September 2026 done, about December 2026, about March 2027. Predict first, compare second. A number you did not predict is a number you will explain away. |
| One in-person person per month | Three in the first quarter, not ten. The metric is returned contact, not conversations had. |
| A weekly twenty-minute review, same slot | One question only: did the month's test get run, yes or no. Everything else is commentary. |
| The log | One page. Prediction before, number after, one sentence on what surprised you. This is the entire artifact the year is supposed to produce, and it is not a dashboard. |
The Loop
The cadence
| Daily | Ten minutes of practice. Log the weight. One line in the log. |
| Weekly (Sunday, 20 min) | Did the month's test get run? Yes or no. Score the week against the floor, not the target. |
| Monthly (last Sunday) | Score the month. Write next month's prediction in numbers before the month starts. |
| Quarterly | Re-score the three areas: health, wealth, lifestyle. Then one structural removal, in Amari's order. |
| Annually (September) | Is this still the right OS, or has it become the largest planning artifact you own? Answer honestly and in writing. |
The log
This is the artifact the year is supposed to produce, and it is deliberately not a dashboard. Prediction before, number after, one sentence on what surprised you. Twelve rows a year is not a tracking system. It is evidence.
| Month | Theme | Prediction (before) | Actual (after) | What surprised me |

What this page is not
- Not a vision document. You have those, and producing another one is the failure mode named on the first tab.
- Not a life plan. The long-term vision, the five-year blocks and the sixty-plus base decision all exist and are better than anything that would be written here.
- Not a substitute for the calendar. The April 2027 crypto sale, the March 2027 smoke season, the June 2027 trip with your father, the July 2027 family plan and the visa work all run on their own files and this page does not touch them.
- Not public. It is served with noindex and it is not listed on the site map. Say the word and that changes in one line.
